Meghan Markle's Go-To Style Hack Is Matching Two-Piece Sets

Meghan Markle is very much set in her style ways.

For the “Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On and Off the Screen" panel earlier this month, the Duchess of Sussex wore what’s seemingly become her new signature: matching sets. This time around, she opted for a coordinating silk shirt and skirt ensemble that, upon closer examination, had faint stripes.

Markle has toyed around with two-piece sets before: Last April, she wore a salmon blazer and shorts combo to a Lakers game. Then in August, she had on a beige Bleusalt shirt and pants, per the brand. On top of that, she’s also often wearing monochrome ’fits (which are similar to sets since the outfits are created with one color, or matching counterparts, if you will) for travel days, reading to young children, and more.

Never again worry about whether an outfit looks off or dysfunctional. With a coordinating set, your outfit will look cohesive and unified — that’s simply the whole point of a matching set. It’s also a time-saver since you don’t have to decide what to pair each piece with, and they come in a variety of styles, including dressy and comfy options.

Matching Sets Inspired by Meghan Markle

Btfbm Two-Piece Set, $37 (Save 5%)

Amazon

Amazon’s top-seller in its Women’s Suiting category is this Btfbm $37 two-piece set from Btfbm. It comes with a drapey midi skirt and a basic cap-sleeve shirt that has body-flattering ruching. It fits sizes 4 to 16 and comes in 14 colors, including options like navy, wine, and khaki, which are all hues the Duchess wears.

Gap Satin Midi Skirt, $27 (Save $43)

GAP

This Gap Satin Midi Skirt looks even breezier than Meghan’s. It cuts off at the calf, so there’s less fabric, and it has a slit on one side for steady airflow. The waistband has elastic for extra stretch and the satin material “has a nice weight and body” and is “not flimsy and thin,” according to one shopper.

And for $19, complete the set with this matching tank top. It has a scooped neck and thick straps that shouldn’t fall off your shoulders. If you want to opt for a bit more coverage, toss on a denim jacket or T-shirt. And then, hey, you’ve even implemented your one version of the cool layering hack that Katie Holmes uses.

Abercrombie & Fitch Oversized Linen-Blend Step Hem Shirt, $42 (Save $18)

Abercrombie & Fitch

Matching sets can also be done in different ways, and Abercrombie & Fitch has a bunch of linen pieces that can be pieced together. This coastal grandmother-esque shirt and pull-on shorts, for example, are both made with lightweight linen and look less constricting than a long skirt or stiff blazer. The shirt has an oversized silhouette that looks like it’d flow in the wind, while the shorts are “ultra high-rise,” so you can wear them comfortably as a pool or beach cover-up.

Alternatively, the Sloane Tailored Linen-Blend Shorts are a little dressier with pleats and are similar to the one Markle wore to the Lakers game, while a pair of pants might be more comfortable while traveling.
