ILoveMakonnen is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He rose to prominence with the 2014 hit single “Tuesday” featuring Canadian rapper Drake. He’s worked with the labels OVO Sound and Warner Bros. Records. Other standout records include “Sellin”, “Side to Side” and “Love” featuring Rae Sremmurd. Makonnen Sheran was born on April 12, 1989, in Los Angeles, California. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia, with his mother at age 13. He’s a graduate of North Clayton High School in College Park, Georgia. He attended cosmetology school at the Beauty College of America.

CAREER
Makonnen began pursuing music seriously in his early 20s. His early projects include Holiday Special (2011), A Trillion Light Years (2012), and Drink More Water (2012). He was a member of the band ‘Phantom Posse’. Makonnen interacted with artists like Adele, Lil B and Soulja Boy. He also met record producers Mike Will Made It, Metro Boomin and Sonny Digital. He was featured on Mike Will Made It’s 5th mixtape, Ransom (2014). Makonnen’s eponymous debut EP, ILoveMakonnen, was released in July 2014. It produced two singles “I Don’t Sell Molly No More” and “Club Goin’ Up on a Tuesday”. Drake released a remixed version of “Tuesday” in August 2014. ‘Tuesday’ charted at #12 on the Billboard 100 and was certified Gold by the RIAA. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The official video has been viewed more than 150 million times on YouTube.

Makonnen signed to Drake’s OVO Sound in September 2014. The label is distributed by Warner Bros. Records. His second EP, iLoveMakonnen 2, was released in November 2015. It included songs like “Trust Me Danny”, “Second Chance” and “Forever” featuring Santigold. He was featured on Carnage’s debut studio album, Papi Gordo (2015). Makonnen exited from OVO Sound in April 2016. He was featured on the songs “Kolony Anthem” and “How Else” from Steve Aoki‘s 4th album Kolony (2017). He’s worked with several other artists including Lil Yachty, Gucci Mane and Fall Out Boy.

Rapper iLoveMakonnen has an estimated net worth of $2 million. His height is around 5ft 10in and he’s of African-American, Asian, and Indian descent. He currently resides in Portland, Oregon. Makonnen came out as gay via Twitter in January 2017. He was good friends with rapper Lil Peep (d. 2017).
