Boise State quarterback Hank Bachmeier set to enter transfer portal
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Boise State Football looks a lot different than it did just last week.
Offensive Coordinator Tim Plough was relieved of his duties, Saturday, Sept. 24, and now an even bigger change has arisen.
Quarterback Hank Bachmeier has initiated the process of entering the NCAA transfer portal.
After a shock loss to UTEP, Boise State ranked 121th nationally in total offense. Offensive Coordinator Tim Plough was relieved of his duties the day after the defeat, and Bachmeier was soon to follow.
Monday, Sept. 26, reports surfaced that Bachmeier was entering the transfer portal. This was confirmed ESPN's Pete Thamel, Tuesday, Sept 27. Bachmeier spoke to Thamel, indicating that he was thankful for his time with the Broncos.
"I loved my time at Boise State, and I feel like I've given everything that I had," Bachmeier said to ESPN. "I'm super thankful."
Bachmeier had been the starter since 2019 when he defeated Florida State as a true freshman in his first career game. He led the Broncos to a 12-2 record in his that season.
By transferring now, he is eligible to take the 2022 season as a redshirt year (the NCAA allows a player to play up to the first four games before redshirting). He will have two years of eligibility at his next destination, his redshirt senior year, and his Covid exception year (granted to all players who played in the 20-21 fall football season).
The Broncos play San Diego State Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. Redshirt freshman quarterback Taylen Green is the confirmed starter, per head coach Andy Avalos.
