Hana Hou Cafe hosts Bastille Day, too | News, Sports, Jobs

Haiku is about as far away from Paris as it gets in both ideology and culture. But Hana Hou Cafe will do its best to transport your taste buds into the heart of France with its flavorful Bastille Day prix-fixe menu on Sunday evening.

“Each prix-fixe meal will include a welcome glass of Kir Royale cocktail,” says owner Laurent Thibault. “Our seatings start at 6:30 p.m. and continue until about 8:30 p.m.”

Laurent has been in the restaurant industry since he was 14 years old, first attending hotel school. He was also personal maitre’d to the French president, when he was in the French Army. Many know him from his days as a fine-dining waiter at Chez Paul. “We want to share the flavors from my native France with everyone on Sunday,” he says.?”Lydia Panzik will be singing her wonderful classic French songs. It will be loads of fun and tasty, too.”

Choose from fun appetizers, entrees and desserts. Begin with saffron mussel soup; smoked salmon in dill sauce; fig and grapefruit salad; and Tahitian poisson cru with fresh mahi, coconut milk and lime.

For entrees, Laurent will delight you with his steak tartare prepared tableside; or the classic coq au vin: chicken delicately braised in red wine with pearl onions and button mushrooms, a dish that dates back to Julius Caesar. Or opt for fish fillet in lobster-butter cream; pork with camembert; and desserts of crepe Normande with caramelized apple and ice cream; and Charlotte au Chocolate with brandied lady fingers.

The Hana Hou prix-fixe menu costs $35 for two courses and $45 for three. Call 575-2661.
