Exclusive: Kiara Advani drops some hot secrets about her personal life

Her character Preeti from the blockbuster Kabir Singh has become everyone’s dream date of sorts currently. Or at least the internet would like you to believe so. This truckload of love can be heady. She received further praise for her act in Good Newwz. But Kiara Advani knows fame is a fickle lover. The actress, who can turn from being Sati Savitri to sultry siren with just a change of expression, is raring to move on to the next big thing. Going all candid, the actor shares her pet likes and peeves with Filmfare...

The turning point of your career...
Some say , it’s Lust Stories. Some say it’s Kabir Singh. After Lust Stories a lot of filmmakers believed that this girl
can act. Lust Stories won me appreciation. Kabir Singh got me the audience’s love.

An actor you’re dying to work with…
Ranveer Singh. He’s such an interesting actor. Just watching him is so stimulating.

Actresses you admire…
Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone.

A valuable advice you received…
Salman Khan once told me it’s only hard work that matters. Let your work speak for itself. That’s what I believe in as well.

A dream project for you would be…
I’d love to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ranveer Singh.

A film you’ve watched more than five times…
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

As an actor do you battle insecurity?
Yes of course. I guess every actor is insecure. It’s good because it’s a fragile world out here. I believe insecurity in a way makes you come out stronger and better. It makes you give your best.

A secret dream…
I love watching American shows. I’d love to feature in them.

One thing that you can’t bring yourself to do…
Socialising to get films. I can’t do that. I’m bad at it.

How many times do you check yourself in the mirror before leaving home?
I have a mirror in my car as well. So I keep checking myself till
I step out.

What motivates you on a regular day?
If someone I admire says good things to me or calls or messages me, I’m thrilled. It doubles up my energy. I go for a run. I go to the gym. I’m like let’s do this again.

How do you take criticism?
With a pinch of salt. I don’t take it seriously. I haven’t received much criticism though.

Kiara Advani What makes you emotional?
My family. My aim is to make my parents proud and happy. My emotional quotient is high. I get sentimental about them.

What’s the most used app on your phone?
Instagram.

Who’s on your speed dial?
My driver.

Describe your personality in two words…
Loyal and fun loving.

What do you enjoy apart from acting?
I like anything to do with the ocean and the sea. I also love painting. I’m crazy about travelling. I work so that I can travel.

If you could travel right away, where would you go?
I’d leave for the Maldives and go scuba-diving.

Your favourite travel destination…
New York.

Beach or mountains…
Beach.

Would you be comfortable wearing a bikini in a film?
I won’t give you a clichéd answer saying I’d don a bikini if the script demands it. But tell me, how can you expect someone to wear a suit on a beach. It’s the 21st century. Come on guys, grow up!

The one thing you want to change about yourself…
I want to be less of a ‘ditcher’. I always ditch the plans my friends make at the last moment. My manager complains ‘you never go when you’re called for something’. I’m a homebird.

An annoying nickname…
What annoys me is when someone calls me Kaayra instead of Kiara.

Your first celebrity crush…
Hrithik Roshan. Since the time I saw him in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, I’m his ardent fan.

Your idea of a perfect man…
Someone who’s loyal, someone who makes me laugh and laughs at my jokes as well. Someone who’s self-made. Someone who’s kind.

Qualities you admire in a man…
Someone who’s respectful towards all. The way you treat others reveals a lot about your personality. Also, someone who’s honest and straightforward.

A trait in a man that puts you off...
I don’t like guys, who try too hard or those who have a chauvinistic mindset. I cancel them out from my life. I like people who get along with everyone, someone who’s the life of the party.

Describe your first date…
I was in school and it was Valentine’s Day. A group of girls and boys, including some couples, went out together at Hard Rock Caffe. We ate burgers and cheese fries. It was a lame date.

The craziest thing you’ve done in love...
When in school, I wasn’t allowed to travel alone. So I pulled my elder cousin along and travelled in a train to the suburbs just to surprise and meet my boyfriend. Those days it seemed a big deal.

Your first heartbreak…
It was with my first boyfriend. My boards were going on. My parents wanted me to focus on my studies and didn’t allow us to meet. We had to call it off. It wasn’t going anywhere. Nevertheless, it was heart-breaking.
Would you kiss on your first date?
Had you asked me this question two years ago, I’d have said no. But today it would be yes… but not on the first date. (Smiles) Let him wait a bit.

Kiara Advani

Your take on open-relationships…
I’m not open to them. To each his own.

Men find you sexy because…
I can hold a conversation.

Your relationship status…
Single.

Your take on astrology...
I believe in hard work and destiny. I’ve never got into astrology. I believe in God. I pray that He has my back and watches over me.

What excites you about the future?
My films Guilty, Laxmmi Bomb, Indu Ki Jawani, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Shershaah will release in 2020. This is where I wanted to see myself. I guess I’m taking the right decisions. The hard work is paying off now after much waiting. I’m happy.

A longtime wish you want fulfilled …
Give me a Rajkumar Hirani film. I want to do to that slice-of-life genre, which entertains and educates.
